The iLCP was created because we believe that strong, honest and committed photographic representation of wild nature and indigenous cultures can help protect them.  However, the work required to achieve conservation outcomes demands a higher level of commitment, devotion and perseverance.  While many iLCP photographers are engaged in valuable conservation projects, there are those among them who have taken the calling to a higher level. This award is meant to be a recognition from the conservation community and from our peers to the photographer who has demonstrated an outstanding achievement in conservation photography.

The selection of nominees was done through consultation with our Affiliate Council and members of our board, which is formed by experts in many arenas, including science, museums, zoos, media and academia.

The prize is meant to highlight the contributions of the winner and to recognize the commitment and effort necessary to be the top conservation photographer.

The award will be given at WILD9.  November 8, 2009.
