Joe Riis has
had a very successful time in the Yucatan as part of the Yucatan RAVE.
He worked primarily in El Eden, a private conservation reserve where he
captured photos of Jaguars, Ocelots, and Pumas. El Eden is critically important because it is adjacent to areas that are under threat by urbanization
from a growing Cancun. In addition to raising awareness Joe's photographs will also assist Biologist Lazcano's mammal census studies
in the area.

Claudio Contreras was able to
successfully document the flamingo banding in Ría Lagartos. The
partner NGO was Niños y Crías. This marks the successful return of
flamingos to nest in the Yucatan. Last year flamingos in Yucatan did
not nest, because of the dry climate conditions, but during this season
flamingos are nesting again in the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve in a
salt pond located within the Salt Industry of Yucatan known as ¨ La
Esperanza ¨.
