Keith Ellenbogen
Brooklyn, New York

KEITH ELLENBOGEN specializes in underwater photography and environmental conservation.

As a professional photographer, Keith Ellenbogen documents marine life to showcase the artistic beauty of nature, and create an emotional connection to the underwater world. Through his images, he inspires positive social change and action toward protecting the marine environment.

His professional art and conservations assignments include teaming with: Conservation International on a Marine RAP to the previously undocumented northeast coast of Madagascar to create a visual portrait that showcases both the magnificent beauty as well as environmental issues. The New England Aquarium / Monterey Bay Aquarium and partners Conservation International on three separate expeditions to Fiji. OCEANA, documenting the ‘purse seiner’ overfishing practices used to capture the endangered Atlantic Bluefin Tuna during their annual migration in the Mediterranean Sea.    His photos of Atlantic Bluefin Tuna were used by: CITES, ICAT and the DVD cover/poster for award winning documentary The End of the Line.

Keith's photos were selected to showcase compelling environmental storytelling for ILCP's 12Shots at the Blue Ocean Film Festival: A Global Oceans Conservation Summit in 2010.  Additional images were selected by the International Aperture Awards as one of the 'top 50' images in science. His work was featured as one of the  “2007 Best Of…” photographers by the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP).

As well as being recognized for his conservation photography, Keith was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship to Malaysia to showcase the extraordinary colors, patterns, textures and behaviors of fish and animals living the coral reef ecosystem.  An additional emphasis of his Fulbright research was to visually communicate the interdependence between the threatened marine environment and indigenous cultures of the area. Additionally, Keith received an Underwater Photography/Videography Fellowship from Philippe Cousteau’s EarthEcho International.

His work evokes a deep understanding of the crossroads between art, culture and environmental conservation, and has been featured in numerous magazines, newspapers, galleries, art festivals, and leading environmental blogs.  Keith holds a Masters in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design where he serves as a faculty member in the Photography Department. Currently, he resides in Brooklyn, New York.  Feel free to contact him anytime.
