iLCP is best known for its field expeditions, where our photographers produce a comprehensive portrait of a timely conservation issue and threat. This powerful imagery is then used to support a conservation program, project, or campaign.

We start by working with local conservation partners to develop an overall communications strategy for their issue, refining the desired storyline with compelling messages and messengers.

iLCP is unique and effective in part because our photographers not only capture the story, they often become part of the story. The gathering of some of the world’s best conservation photojournalists on an iLCP expedition draws the attention of local, national and international media to the issue being addressed. This leverages iLPC’s exposure and impact on behalf of our partner organizations.

Since its founding in 2005, iLCP has conducted Photographic Expeditions all around the world, always with the aim of furthering environmental and cultural conservation through communication initiatives. iLCP's Photographic Expeditions have traditionally been called either "Rapid Assessment Visual Expeditions" (RAVE), describing a full multi-disciplinary assessment of a threatened ecosystem, or "Tripods," describing projects undertaken in cooperation with another organization, whether "in the Sky," (arial photography), "in the Mud," (land based), or "in the Blue," (in water).
